The A to Z of SUPER CONFIDENCE
26 tips to boost your confidence and self-belief
One of EmployabilityUK’s key volunteer presenters, Alan Matthews wrote a booklet for the charity called the A to Z of Super Confidence. Alan shares his top 26 tips to help boost your confidence and self-belief. The booklet can be purchased from EUK’s website store at employability.org/store. If you have been on an EmployabilityUK programme, you will have seen Alan presenting a few of the tips during the workshops.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, the Founder of the charity, Di Vernon, came up with the idea of asking our volunteers to choose a letter from the booklet and record a short video to bring the 26 tips to life with actual experiences. The volunteers rose to the challenge and shared their insights. This has enabled us to create a great knowledge base that you can view on this platform.
We hope you enjoy the videos and get some good learning points from the series. If you put just some of the hints and tips into practice, you will give your confidence a huge boost!
At EmployabilityUK we remember very clearly our own journey into further education and employment. We know it is not easy. The choices are endless. There is information you don’t know you need. Who do you speak to? Where is the best advice? How do you get to where you want to be? And what if you change your mind?
What now?
-
Do you remember everything you heard? Probably not.
-
Would it help you to revisit the content? Probably would.
-
Do you have all the contacts you need for the future? Definitely not.
That’s why we are passionate about:
-
Helping you to continue to build your confidence
-
Enhancing your communication skills
-
Strengthening your employment opportunities
-
Giving you information
-
Helpfully signposting you

What information do I need?
We have started to add some of that information we mentioned – ‘that you don’t know you need’. For example, we have partnered with ACAS to advise you on future employment rights and what to expect from employers.
Don’t worry, we have made it very easy to understand. We are working hard to add as much information as possible to help you. If you want us to specifically add a subject, just click the ‘contact us’ button at the bottom of the page and tell us. We are always delighted to hear from you and help.
We have added quite a few links to other sites that are packed with information and advice.
When would I revisit this ?
As often as you like and for lots of reasons:
- You may want to simply remind yourself of what you heard at the workshop
- You may have an interview coming up and want to practice your skills
- You may want to build your confidence to start a new job or course
- You may want to advise a friend on how to create a vision board to focus their future plans.
- We may have sent you a message to say there is new information, click and have a look
- You may have a suggestion for us to add something.
So, keep the link handy. It is for you.
“When life throws you lemons, make lemonade”
Could I volunteer with EmployabilityUK?
Some of our former learners have done just that. It is fantastic to think you can inspire other local young people, give them confidence and help them understand the various pathways to employment.
Volunteering can give you the opportunity to try something new, gain experience, develop skills, improve your career prospects, build confidence and meet new people.
It can help you to achieve personal goals, develop new skills and practice your talents
It gives you a sense of purpose and community spirit for example supporting on just 3 or 4 programmes could positively impact the lives of over 100 people.
There are a huge range of skills you can acquire through volunteering/ mentoring, starting with:
